Site Description
Coastline; Forest
Tsukuejima islets lie on the southwest side of Genkaijima, located at the mouth of Fukuoka Bay, and consisting of Ohtsukuejima and Kozukuejma. The vegetation includes Pinus thunbergii and Pittosporum tobira. Many seabirds such as Japanese Cormorants and Pelagic Cormorants use cliffs on the north side of Ohtsukuejima as a resting ground. The configuration of Ohtsukuejima has partly been transformed by landslides that took place on the upper portion of the islet when the Fukuoka Earthquake occured in March 2005.
