The site is a group of islets located 90 km west of Makurazaki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, composed of Kaminoshima, Nakanoshima, Shimonoshima and other 17 islets, where Brown Booby and Streaked Shearwater breed. Kaminoshima, 2.3 km around, has an area of only 21 ha and surrounded by steep cliffs with its highest point at 130 m. The area near the top of the mountain is covered with scrub forests. On the mountain top there is a lighthouse and management facilities.
