Site Description
Coastline; Forest
The site is an uninhabited islet located about 2 km off shore of Cape Oide in Hakozaki Peninsula, Iwate Prefecture. High cliffs and sand beaches are around the islet, and there are several islets in various sizes in the nearby sea. A mature forest of Machilus tunbergii, a southern lineage tree, covers all over the islet. Bare ground appears in Machilus tunbergii forests where Aesculus turbinata, Quercus crispula and Ligustrum ovalifolium mix together. Pseudosasa japonica widely covers the ridge where Reynoutria sachalinensis, Euonymus fortunei and Artemisia indica var. maximowiczii also occur.
